Quantitative estimation of corrosion rate in 3C steels under seawater environment

نویسندگان

چکیده

An artificial neural network method is proposed to correlate the relationship between corrosion rate of 3C steels with seawater environment factors. The predictions unseen test data are in good agreement experimental values. Further, developed model used simulate combined effect environmental factors (temperature, dissolved oxygen, salinity, pH values, and oxidation-reduction potential) on rate. 3D mappings remarkably reveal complex interrelationship input parameters output quantitative estimation by virtual addition/subtraction individually a hypothetical system helps understand impact each parameter.

Estimation of Atmospheric Corrosion of High-Strength, Low-Alloy Steels

This data analysis was undertaken to investigate the weatherability of steels whose compositions do not fall in the range of ASTM Standard G101, Estimating the Atmospheric Corrosion Resistance of Low-Alloy Steels (1). This standard was developed to estimate the corrosion resistance of low-alloy weathering steels from chemical composition data and from actual atmospheric exposure tests. This sta...

An evaluation of carbon steel corrosion under stagnant seawater conditions.

Corrosion of 1020 carbon steel coupons in natural seawater over a 1-year period was more aggressive under strictly anaerobic stagnant conditions than under aerobic stagnant conditions as measured by weight loss and instantaneous corrosion rate (polarization resistance). Under oxygenated conditions, a two-tiered oxide layer of lepidocrocite/goethite formed. The inner layer was extremely tenaciou...

Prediction of corrosion rate of AZ31B magnesium alloy under salt fog environment in NaCl solution

Magnesium alloys have gained considerable interest as a material for automotive and aerospace applications due to its low density, high specific strength, and good castability. However, another considerable issue is their corrosion properties. This restricts their practical applications. In this present research, corrosion behavior of the AZ31B magnesium alloy was evaluated by conducting salt f...

Quantitative measuring of pearlite in carbon steels using electromagnetic sensor

Non-destructive Eddy current (EC) technique has long been used to detect discontinuities in materials. Recently, its application has been extended to characterize materials microstructure. In order to identify different microstructures, four plain carbon steel bars with different chemical compositions (AISI 1015, 1035, 1045 and 1080) were used in annealed condition. The pearlite percentage, car...

Effects of Ultrasonic-Aided Quenching on the Corrosion Resistance of GB 35CrMoV Steel in Seawater Environment

The effects of ultrasonic-aided quenching (USQ) on the microstructure and corrosion properties of 35CrMoV steel in a simulated seawater environment (wt % (NaCl) = 3.5) were studied. The corrosion properties of the steel were studied by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and potentiodynamic polarization curves. The scanning electron microscope (SEM) and energy dispersive spectrometer (...
